Peanut butter blossom cookies on a plate

Peanut butter blossom cookies are a classic holiday treat and necessary addition to any Christmas cookie tray. These are hands down my favorite holiday cookie to make. Sometimes called peanut butter kisses, peanut butter blossoms are made with a soft and chewy peanut butter cookie base and topped with a kiss. So festive and cute!

These cookies are commonly found in the yearly cookie exchanges many of us participate in. I’ve been using this recipe for years and it always makes perfect cookies that are highly requested by my family.

If you love peanut butter treats, also try my peanut butter balls, another classic holiday treat!

FAQs for Peanut Butter Blossoms

Peanut butter blossom cookies on plate
What kind of peanut butter should I use for peanut butter blossom cookies?

Natural peanut butter with nothing but salt added is great for daily use on toast or sandwiches but just won’t work in this recipe. Natural peanut butter does not have stabilizers, so it’s oily and will separate. You will want to get the national brands like Jiffy Creamy Peanut Butter.

Do I have to use Hershey’s Kisses for blossom cookies?

Hershey’s Kisses are necessary to make the classic version of these cookies, but you can use the base cookie recipe and add other toppings. Try mini peanut butter cups or candied nuts.

How do I store the cookies?

Store these cookies in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature or in the fridge for up to 1.5 weeks. Storing in the fridge will change the texture slightly, but they will still taste delicious!

Can you freeze these cookies?

You can freeze these cookies for up to 1 month in the freezer. Freezing for any longer than this changes the texture and risks freezer burn.

NYT has the best recipes and this one is in the top 10 for me. Thank you for taking the time to post it as NYT charges for access to their online recipes. The only change I make (as I have reduced my processed sugar intake) is I use fresh ground peanut butter, do not roll in sugar, and use Dove dark chocolate squares in lieu of kisses.

Adorable classic cookies. I make them every year for Christmas. I tried peanut butter cups once but they melted a bit too much. Something about the kisses that just works the best.
