Jump to Recipe

This 6-ingredient mango salsa is quick and easy to make and bursting with fresh summer flavor. Pair mango salsa with chips, tacos, or pile on fresh grilled fish or shrimp.

Salsas are my go-to for a summer BBQ, aperitif, or potlock. Fresh ingredients paired with crispy chips and a salty margarita is a favorite in my house.

This salsa pairs ripe mangos with bell pepper, red onion, jalapeño, cilantro and lime for a fresh and vibrant salsa. It’s an easy recipe, but packs a ton of flavor.

If you like this recipe, try my spicy orange taco sauce or roasted tomato and mint salsa recipes. These 2 recipes plus mango salsa make a well balanced salsa bar.

Variations + Substitutions

While there is no substitute for a juicy fresh mango in this recipe, there are a few other tweaks you can make.

  • Spicy – Jalapeño adds a subtle kick. Try leaving some of the jalapeño seeds to kick up the heat a notch. Or substitute a serrano pepper or even habanero for a spicy sweet salsa.
  • Avocado – Add a diced avocado to make this salsa a bit richer and creamer.
  • Veggies – Add some fresh summer corn or tomatoes to get in some extra veggies.

Equipment

This recipe does not require any fancy equipment, but a good-quality cutting board and chef’s knife are nice to use.

Storage

Store in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.

How to cut a mango

How do you cut a mango?

Cutting a mango might look complicated, but if you follow these steps you will be comfortable in no time. Don’t worry about getting each piece into a perfect square!

Step 1: Hold your mango upright and find the tallest side. The pit will be sitting along that line, so you’ll want to be facing parallel to that side. With a small paring knife, carefully slice half of the mango off of the pit while aiming your knife towards the center of the mango.

Step 2: Turn your mango 180 degrees and hold the top while you slice the other half off of the pit.

Step 3: Take one half of your mango and cut lines vertically through the fruit side of the half without cutting through the skin.

Step 4: Flip your mango half so that the vertical lines you just cut are now facing you horizontally. Cut lines vertically through this side of the fruit without cutting through the skin to create grid-like lines.

Step 5: Take a spoon and scoop out the cubes from the grid-like pattern, leaving the skin behind.
